COVID symptoms

Please remember if your child is ill and you are reporting this we will be asking questions about the symptoms.  If your child is showing symptoms of COVID we will be requesting the family self isolate for the appropriate time or until a negative test is reported.  Please do not contact school without details of the temperature.  If a child is reported to have a 'fever' or 'temperature' we will presume this is a symptom and refuse admission back to school until we have proof of a negative test result or the end of the isolation period, please do not be offended by this.

Main symptoms

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature) 37.8C or greater
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
